The Incredible Positive Effects of Music and the amazing effect of music on people
What would the world be without it. The positive effects of music can unite people from all over the world. If you know and understand a musical culture enough then you can communicate via your musical instrument or voice without even being able to speak their language. Be aware of this in your music production and songwriting. When recording a performance ask yourself is it a great performance? Does your music communicate beyond the words? Does it move you? Think about the effect of music on people in your music production. The incredible power of music.
Effects of Music
As an example – take the power of the blues. Drop into any country and if they understand the basics of the 12 bar blues you are able to sit in on a session and play or improvise. That is have fun and communicate with strangers as if you had known them all your life. This is the power of music, and learning to play an instrument or learning to sing is a skill worth developing. People also pick up on the feeling or emotion present in the music. So there is the amazing psychological effect of music going on here.
Practise! practise! day and night
However like any language it does take time and commitment and also lots of practise and frustration – but the road ahead does get clearer and does get easier. Just enjoy every minute and don’t think about success. The positive effects of music can rub off on you in your daily practise.
Physical effects of music
Music can also effect you physically. We tap our feet to the beat. We get up and dance when we hear a great groove. You get excersise from dancing. This has got to be good for you.
Any genre - any style will do
And its not just the blues. Folk music, Indian music, Jazz and any music that involves percussion or drums and any music that has an improvisational element – these are all good starters. Although I mentioned lots of practise I think we could also include singing simple songs in that list – something that even the most non musical could join in with.
Effects of music on society – an universal language
As yet I haven’t mentioned the pure listener – we can listen to music from any country and it can keep our interest for long periods, first because of the sounds and instruments involved and secondly from the excitement created by a musical performance whether its a rhythmic piece or something that has a great emotional quality, i.e. something that is able to convey feeling. This is the universal language of music at work – and it is capable of breaking down barriers between people.
