The Ztar Z7s by Starrlabs - Midi guitar like a keyboard
Are you a guitar player? Would you like to have the control, sounds and effects of a keyboard player? Easy pitch bend, tap, arpeggiate and ribbon control. A full orchestra at your fingertips all through wireless midi.
Now you can with the Ztar Z7S by Starrlabs. The Ztar Z7s is the new addition to their guitar synthesizer range. Strictly it is not a guitar synth like the Roland GR20 Guitar synthesizer or Shadow midi guitar system. The Ztar is an improved midi controller designed with guitar players in mind.
The Ztar Z7s is designed more in the style of the Yamaha midi guitar controller or the early Casio midi guitar interface. The approach that Starrlabs has taken is simliar to Casio and Yamaha by having a fretboard that responds to touch but also allows you to pluck the strings.
This produces a glitch free and delay free system unlike the Roland Guitar Synthesizer GR20 which uses a midi guitar converter or midi guitar pick up which translates the string pitch into midi information. This information is then used to play a sample of a flute or trumpet for example.
This midi guitar technology as developed by Starrlabs for the Ztar Z7S is preferred by some players because of the delay free and glitchless response the system provides. The drawback of the system is that many guitar players prefer to play their faithful axe as they feel it’s a big part of their music making.
The Ztar is probably great for those players who are willing to experiment and possibly for keyboard playing guitarists who want a new form of expression. Also as this is a guitar midi controller you wil have to have some kind of guitar synth module or midi keyboard to give you the appropriate sounds.
However Ztar Z7s is a very versatile midi controller. It will allow you to tap, pick and have all sorts of string tunings all at the touch of a button. Other advantages of this midi controller is the inclusion of wireless midi, breath control for modulation etc., USB, a ribbon controller and arpeggiator. The price of the Ztar Z7S is $1495

I had an old Gallien- Krueger bass amp that I’ d plug my acoustic guitar into- and noticed for some reason it sounded better with the“ compressor” button pressed, and something called“ chorus” added. But if I added too much chorus, it sounded..
