Sweet Ann by Power FX – a virtual singer for your one man band
Need a singer for your latest song. Finding vocals difficult to do yourself. Perhaps you’d like to have an idea what a female vocal would sound like on your latest creation. Try out Sweet Ann by Power FX a computer generated singing voice that uses Yamaha’s Vocaloid virtual singing software engine.
Computer Voice through VST and Rewire
Sweet Ann is a virtual singer that can run as a vst instrument or under Rewire on your PC inside your favourite sequencer such as Cubase or FLStudio (not for Mac at the moment).
Enter words into the singing synthesizer and press play
You enter lyrics into Sweet Ann’s computer voice generated interface and you bring them to life by adding pitch, length and modulation information. There are plenty of tweaks available to simulate a real vocal and it is possible to get close to a real vocal take.
Sweet Ann belts it out
Sweet Ann doesn’t yet stand up to a belting performance by a great singer but the ability to tweak the technology gets better and better with each attempt. Yamaha and Power FX must be applauded for getting this close with Sweet Ann and her computer voice software. Sometimes a phrase can sound quite convincing and Sweet Ann can certainly be used as a backing vocalist.
