Guitar Effects of the 1960’s – Jimi Hendrix plays Voodoo child

Jimi Hendrix plays Voodoo Child:

Listening to the radio a moment ago I was amazed by the number of dazzling effects that Jimi Hendrix puts into the performance of Voodoo Child.

Use of the whammy bar with pitch bend and dive bombs – hitting the tremolo arm (whammy) to get a jittering effect -  the obligatory string bends, hammers and pull (slurs), and of course Hendrix’s favourite effect the Wah-Wah Pedal.

What’s amazing about Jimi’s playing is the ease with which he moves from one effect to another  – much of the music of course is improvised which helps him to give a spontaneous feel to his playing and easier control of these effects.

Great music, great memories, great guitar playing.
