I liked this video of Blink 182. It shows them recording a song in what looks like a large house as opposed to a conventional recording studio. Not sure if it’s their own private studio. Obviously to set it up this way requires some organization.

However there can be many cables strewn across the floors, as we can see.  The problem in doing it thus way is that it can get a bit chaotic. So labelling stuff is essential.

Other problems arise when separating the musicians from each other especially if there are any microphones involved in the song. Here we see them playing acoustic guitars so separation is essential if they are going to play the song as a band. Hence the band members are in different rooms.
