Volkswagen Golf, Dylan Thomas, Richard Burton,  Zero 7.

Lovely use of different elements to advertise a Vokswagen Golf - the poetry of Dylan Thomas, the great dramatic Shakespearean voice of Richard Burton and the chilled out background music make for a rivetting advert.

I know this isn’t a guitar based piece but I was really taken with the latest Volkswagen Golf advert (UK). The advert shows the Golf driving around a big city late at night with very tall skyscrapers lit up.

 The backdrop to this is a soundtrack that sounds like an echoey Lizard electric piano software module played sort of in the style of Zero 7.

Overlaying the fantastic music track is the voice of Richard Burton speaking lines from Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas the famous Welsh poet and writer – Dylan Thomas has been a big inflence lyrically on the songs of the great Bob Dylan.

The atmosphere produced is inspiring and the contrast of the poetry which echoes of the past mixed in with the modern works so well. A hint that life although it changes externally is not really that much different. Only technology has changed – hence the new Golf !

I’m not a big advert type person but this advert deserves an award!!!!
